Why Cape Town?
Its November! The start of the prime windsurfing season in Cape Town and goes all the way up until March. These warm summer months in Cape Town offer strong winds and ideal conditions for windsurfing. While Cape Town’s winter brings storm swells and larger waves, you can still find plenty of wave action for windsurfing during the summer. Since wind and wave conditions change daily, check daily windsurfing reports before heading out to your favourite spot.
How can you start?
At Joluka Windsurfing we have everything to get you started on your windsurfing journey. With gear catered towards all skill levels and packages that tick all the boxes. We are here to get you into the water and start your windsurfing journey. There is no better place to windsurf this year than in Cape Town, and it doesn’t always have to be the ocean. There are many large bodies of water and wide rivers surrounding Cape Town if you don’t feel ready for the open ocean. Flat open water with Cape Town winds is the ideal condition for any beginner.
Where in Cape Town?
Cape Town’s exceptional windsurfing conditions attract many top international windsurfers for training. The well-known south-easterly wind blows almost daily in summer, and the occasional north-westerly wind also offers great windsurfing opportunities.
Some beautiful oceanic windsurfing spots:
- Platboom: Situated in the Cape of Good Hope National Park, this spot often picks up the swell first, making it a great choice when other places are flat. Watch out for baboons in the parking lot!
- Scarborough: This small bay is perfect for intermediate to expert windsurfers but can get crowded quickly.
- Witsands: You need to walk down a cliff to rig up in this bay, which is only suitable for advanced and expert windsurfers.
